The Safford Area is known for the agriculture of the Gila River Valley, natural hot springs, recreation on the white sand dunes, and the primitive areas of the Coronado National Forest. A great deal of early Arizona history occurred in this area, due to the wild and rugged lifestyle led by the early settlers here and their conflicts with the nearby hostile Apache Indians led by Geronimo.
