A mile-long lava tube cave, was formed roughly 700,000 years ago by molten rock that erupted from a volcanic vent. Open to spelunking. Located in Coconino National Forest, the area has ancient ruins and hiking trails.

Sunset Crater is the youngest volcano on the Colorado Plateau. Its red rim and dark lava flows cooled and hardened to a jagged surface. See Nature's response to a volcanic eruption.
